Rock Walk

Justine, a Seattle Audubon Staff Member, was kind enough to pass along this post and great photos:
Recently on a promising spring day Russ Steele, Operation Director at Seattle Audubon took staff on a walk; a walk to the Rock. Though we had all heard rumor of the infamous rock, none of us staff had ever seen it, and most were unsure of exactly where it was located. Russ lives in the neighborhood and led us out the door of our office on 35th and up through the winding streets of the western side of Wedgwood. We meandered through the beautiful neighborhoods enjoying the flowers and fresh spring buds in the gardens along the way, checking the trees and shrubs for birds as we went. (That’s our specialty – birds).
We came up around the corner from the soccer fields and there it was. A huge beacon of ancient times resting serenely among the trees in its now urban environment. We were able to surround the rock each staff touching the other in a great primordial rock hug! It is a rare thing to take the time out of a busy day to go out and appreciate your environment for an hour. I encourage everyone to go out and find something new in your hood.

Cheers, Justine
