The Wedgwood Blogthoughts on Seattle's finest neighborhood
July 15 School policy splits up pair of twinsMore evidence of the Seattle schools broken admission's policy. The Seattle Times profiles a family in the neighborhood who have twins that were denied entrance to the same elementary school. One attends Bryant and one attends Wedgwood.
Hopefully this will be the year the Seattle School Board approves the plan that guarantees students a spot at the school closest to their homes. July 11 Meeting to get more greenspace in Wedgwood!Got this info from Greg at Wedgwood Action who is always on top of city land use stuff.
The city is setting aside $24 million for park acquisition and Wedgwood is on the list for potential investment.
The two potential properties for acquisition are:
the pocket park at the corner of 35th Ave NE (right by the CC Hair Salon)
NE 86th Street, and the open space at 35th Ave NE and NE 80th Street. (Across from the church)
If you are interested in getting more parks in the neighborhood take a little time out to go to this meeting: Wednesday, July 17, 2008 - 5:30 start time Seattle City Council Chambers City Hall 600 4th Ave. 2nd Floor June 17 Let the school board know how you feel about overcrowded NE Seattle schoolsA group has organized to voice concerns of NE parents about the overcrowding of our neighborhood schools -The NE Cluster Coalition. Did you know next year Wedgwood Elementary will grow from 419 to 505 students? And Eckstein middle school is so over capacity that 30% of its classes are being held in portables.
You can find out more about the group at

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/SPSNEClu/petition.html The group will be presenting the petition to the School Board on Wed. June 18th and are hoping to have hundreds in attendance showing their support. June 18th School Board Meeting John Stanford Center 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. June 09 Wedgwood Sign Swiped!First it was tagged now it has been stolen. The Welcome To Wedgwood sign at NE 70th & 35th NE appears to have been taken sometime last week.
There seems to be an increase in graffiti in the hood over the past couple months. I've noticed a bunch of new tags up and down 35th. Also heard a report out of Laurelhurst of window smashing and Molotov cocktails (!) being thrown by bored teenagers.
